History: Mason is a super sweet little guy that will melt your heart. He sits like a prairie dog and it is just about the cutest trick in the world. He is shy at first but warms up quickly. He is hoping to find a family of his own!
A note from the foster:
Hi! My name is Mason and I am also known as a professional prairie dogger, I beg pretty all the time! I came all the way from Oklahoma, where I was in a hoarding type situation where dozens of us were in a small area, but don’t worry I am doing great since coming out of that situation.
Since I am only 7.5 lbs, this weather change to Wisconsin sure thru me for a loop! Now that it is warming up outside, I LOVE to go on walks. My foster parents take me on a short walk in the morning and in the evening and that’s usually where I do my “business” followed by reward. Otherwise, I use a potty pad inside the house. I love to snuggle with my foster brother, follow him around, steal his toys, and wrestle with him Most of all, I love to snuggle with my humans, and no I mean REALLY snuggle with my humans! I am pretty shy around new people/dogs at first and I will hide under the table and usually use my voice towards them for a little bit until I know that they won’t harm me, or around new dogs, I have to be slowly introduced to them. My foster parents have a rule in the house when new people come over. It’s a “don’t acknowledge” rule. This simply means, ignore me and let me come to you to sniff you out when I am ready, which usually is only a few minutes. Once I start getting comfortable, my foster mom has them give me treats so that I know I can trust them, which I take gently from you. I am unique my foster mom tells me, because I have longer hair on my neck and my back and she tells me it gives me character! I love breakfast and dinnertime! I especially love the vegies mixed in with my food.
I love to sleep in bed with my family at night, under the blankets and when we wake up in the morning, I am very excited to smoother my humans in kisses! I should also let you know, I do snore quietly when I am tired, but my foster mom says it is hilarious and does not affect their sleeping one bit. I am put in a kennel while my family is at work and most of the times when they come home; it looks like a tornado happened in my kennel as I mess up the blankets and bedding. However, I love when they put a kong full of frozen treats inside my kennel with me, to keep me busy for a while. If my humans are only going to be gone for a few hours, they leave me out of the kennel and I do just fine.
Overall, I am very excited about my new life! I am great with car rides, I love treats, snuggles and being brushed! I can’t wait to meet my forever family and want everyone to know that my personality makes me that much cuter than I already am!
Mason is a wonderful little man and his photos do not do him justice! It did take him 1-2 days to warm up to us as well and his foster brother. Once he realized that we would never harm him, he is our shadow, and he craves attention and love. Mason has been working with a trainer to help him gain social confidence. We have been working on commands such as, “leave it” to help him focus on us instead of other things in new situations. The trainer feels that he will succeed in his training to make him the best dog possible.
Mason does great with our resident dog, but does need to be acclimated to new dogs slowly, due to his past. Mason also is skiddish around fast children, so I would recommend with older children or a family without children.
If you are looking for a dog that is a professional snuggler, on top of a professional prairie dog and also being extremely unique in his appearance, Mason is your little man! Any family that chooses him, will know the meaning of “unconditional love” from a dog.
