History: Missy is a beautiful girl that needed rescue from an unfortunate situation. She has settled into rescue and won our hearts. She is a very loving girl hoping to find a family of her own.
A note from the foster:
Missy is a 4 year old lab mix with a calm, sweet demeanor. She came to us very shy and a bit fearful of dogs and everything around her. She has really relaxed at our home since coming into rescue and come to enjoy the finer things in a dogs life....naps on the couch, walks, and car rides!
Missy is completely house trained without a single accident. Missy enjoys going on walks although it was apparent she had little experience with them. She still weaves a bit and changes directions abruptly but is getting better everyday! She watches for signs that we are ready to go as the afternoon approaches. Missy definitely does better with a routine to her day as it gives her stability and confidence. She gets nervous in new situations like visiting the vet clinic. It took weeks for her to come down the stairs into the lower level of our home. She was comfortable upstairs and saw no reason to venture further!
Missy gets along well with our resident dog. They have similar docile behaviors and respect eachothers space. She is not a space invader we have noticed. She enjoys attention from people but does not demand it. Missy prefers to stay close to our family as we move around the house but not right next to you. Missy is learning some basic commands but really didn't even know "sit". She could definitely benefit from an obedience class as her recall needs some work. She has been to a dog park and did great with new dogs and people but needs more practice to learn to stay close and come when she is called.
Missy is learning to play with our dog and with encouragement has chased a little and played tug of war for short spells but seems to lack a little courage to play very long. As she aclimates to a new home my feeling is she will gain confidence and become more carefree and playful. Missy enjoys sleeping in her kennel at night. We keep the door open and she gets in when it is bedtime. She will come out and sleep on the couch some nights but prefers the safety of the kennel. During the day she is free to roam the house and does well as I work nights and sleep during the day. She is trustworthy with our dog when we are gone for a few hours. She is for the most part over the chewing phase as long as she has a few toys to chew on.
Missy would make a wonderful addition to any loving stable family. She craves routine, and predictablity in people around her. I have seen signs in her that she may have been around people who were less than predictable which may have made her more fearful in situations. With time and love she will relax and come to enjoy the life she deserves! Give Missy a chance at that good life and you will gain a lifelong friend and faithful companion.
