History: These sweet dogs needed rescue from an unfortunate situation. We partnered with another organization and were able to welcome them to Coco's Heart. They are each hoping to find a family of their own!
A note from the foster:
Meet Smilie! :) As you can see, he gets his name from his adorable little underbite that always makes it look like he's smiling. However, there's another dimension to his name as well, because he makes me more smiley, too! :)
Smilie came to rescue back in February as one of our shy dogs, and was with a wonderful foster family for the first couple months. After seeing him having so much fun with other dogs at a training, we realized that it may help him come out of his shell a bit if he were in a foster home with another dog. He's now been in my home since April (with a little pomeranian) and he's doing amazingly well!
Smilie loves to play and isn't picky about his toys - he loves them all! He also runs, leaps, prances, and frolicks around the house and outside in the yard. It's soooo cute! Smilie is a master cuddler, too, and just loves being close to his human.
Smilie is crate-trained and goes into his kennel quietly and with no issues. He's also potty trained.
Continued socialization will be important for Smilie. Having company over or taking him on "field trips" different places will help him become more comfortable in a variety of situations. At home and in my fenced-in yard you'd never know he was a shy dog, but it's when he goes out into the world that his anxiety comes out. Some days we just sit outside the fence in the grass and watch the neighbors go by. His favorite place to go this summer was the ballfields! He got lots of attention and starting taking treats from new people - both adults and kids! :) He also had fun at the cabin and on his first boat ride. I do believe that Smilie would be happiest in a home with another dog - probably a smaller one more his size, or at least a gentle dog who would play carefully and not be intimidating.
Smilie is truly a wonderful and adorable little dog! It's been so fun watching him settle in and gain confidence, and he has such a fantastic little personality shining through! I absolutely love Smilie, and I know he'll make his forever family incredibly happy and smiley!! :)
