History: Alfred is the nicest boy around! He needed rescue from an unfortunate situation and is settling into his foster home. He is doing great and hoping to find a family of his own!
A note from the foster:
Alfred (he prefers “Freddie”) came to our home in early March and warmed to us fairly quickly. He is a very gentle and quiet little dog - ideal for a home desiring a non-shedding companion. He struggles with separation anxiety and needs more frequent outings to keep from messing in the house or even in his crate. We believe he is house-trained but has a nervous bladder. Accidents are most likely when he is ill or fearful. His transition time into our home (2-3 weeks) brought many accidents. As he has become more comfortable with us, this penchant for messes has been drastically cut back.
He seems to have two big fears: closed spaces and thunderstorms. He does not enjoy crate time, in fact he appears to be frightened by it. He sleeps best near us. (He initially tried to jump up on our bed to sleep but he has accepted sleeping in a dog bed on the floor in our bedroom. We need to close the room so that his activity will wake us if he needs to go outside – otherwise, he just trots into the next room and takes care of business there.) His other fear is of lightening during storms. He will do anything he can to escape our room (get away from windows) during nighttime storms! We have tried using a Thundershirt but he seems to prefer close personal contact and reassurance at this point. So storms have been the exception to our “no bed” policy.
This little guy LOVES being outside and truly relishes hopping into the car to ride along on errands and visit new places. He generally responds well to other dogs in public. At home he is leary of other dogs near his food or his rawhide chew. He can be protective of these things and the situation can get scrappy fast! He has also been known to mark around the house when there is another pet present (previous foster home). He might be best as a solo pet.
In all honesty, Freddie is growing on us! Right now, money is our only hindrance, so act fast if you think he should be yours!! The sooner he moves into his forever home, the sooner he can really begin to blossom. In his two months with us he has become more secure and, consequently, has grown past some of his less savory traits. This endearing little dog will bring years of joy wherever he ultimately ends up!
