But aren’t you a dog rescue? Our rescue efforts started in 2010, focusing primarily on dogs and some cats. Overtime, our organization has been able to help serve several other types of animals including a pig, rooster/chickens, pocket pets, and other mini horses. Our first horse rescue effort was in 2016 from a local hoarding situation. All mini horses have been rehomed into great homes.

Then in 2022, we welcomed a small group of mini horses also from a local hoarding situation. Coco’s Heart has continued to care for three of these minis- Lily, Hope (currently available for adoption!), and our one-eyed gelding, Donk. Donk has officially become Richard’s companion and has joined Richard onsite. Donk has attended our annual children's day and kid day camps in the summer.

December 2023, Richard was then rescued. Richard is a one year old Dwarf Mini Horse who defied all odds, surviving major surgeries after being kicked by a horse. His inspiring journey is to advocate against the breeding of dwarf mini horses and encourage acceptance in special needs. Richard and Donk are special needs mini horses who look forward to sharing their story with you!

Be a crucial part in Richard’s recovery and happiness by joining his enRICHment team! This is a flexible volunteer opportunity offered throughout the day, daily. Come out to his barn and enjoy time with this sweet fellow.

Activities include but not limited to- grooming, walking Richard, helping maintain cleanliness of his barn, some chore duties like refilling water buckets, picking stall, etc.

Youth/Children are welcome with an adult present at all times and prior approval. Equine experience not needed.
