History and A note from the Foster: Every rescue dog has a story, and Calvi's is one of resilience and newfound joy. This adorable 5-year-old mini poodle may have had a rough start in life, but since coming to rescue, he's blossoming into the happy, playful pup he was always meant to be.
While Calvi is shy when first meeting new people, his gentle spirit and loving nature shine through once he feels comfortable. Give him time and patience, and you'll discover a wonderful companion who brings boundless enthusiasm to everything he does. His favorite discoveries since coming to rescue? Tennis balls, walks, cozy dog beds, and of course, his meals – which he devours with gusto despite having had some dental work done! Calvi sleeps quietly in his kennel next to his foster mommy every night.
One of Calvi's most endearing qualities is his confidence around other dogs. Whether they're his size or ten times bigger, this little fellow holds his own and genuinely enjoys canine companionship. He currently lives harmoniously with dogs ranging from mini to mighty (10 pounds, up to 80 pounds!), proving that size truly doesn't matter when it comes to friendship.
Nothing brings out Calvi's playful side quite like having a fenced backyard to zoom around in, especially when he can share the experience with his four-legged friends. His joy in these simple pleasures is infectious and heartwarming to witness. Calvi likes to keep his foster mommy close and will let her know with a friendly bark if she wanders too far away in the house – he simply wants to be where the action is!
Currently, Calvi is recovering from surgery on his back knees due to luxating patella's. He's making excellent progress with his physical therapy and limited activity, approaching his recovery with the same determination he brings to everything else in life. He will not be fully cleared to return back to normal activities until the middle of April. He is available for foster to adopt (if his future family is within 80 miles of CHDR) and his foster mom can walk you through what is required for the remainder of his recovery. This includes no stairs, hardwood floors, running, playing, or jumping. Part of his recovery is going for walks, which he loves! Otherwise, the adoption would be finalized once he is given the all clear from the vet team if not within 80 miles of CHDR.
The perfect home for Calvi will be one that understands that the best relationships take time to develop. He should also go to a home with another dog, it doesn't matter the size as he is comfortable with all. While he may need some extra patience initially as he continues to build his confidence, the reward of seeing this sweet boy come out of his shell and share his loving personality makes it all worthwhile. Are you ready to be part of Calvi's journey and help him discover even more wonderful "firsts" in life? Apply today to meet this sweet boy!
Adoption Fee: $500 + tax
Adoption Status: Is this dog available? Submitting an application is the best first step to learning if a dog is still available. There is a chance this dog could have a pending adoption when your application is submitted, however our team will offer approved applicants to be put on a waiting list for that dog. Additionally, we can make recommendations on other dogs that may be a match. Pending adoptions do not mean the adoption is finalized. Why did we implement this change? We implemented this update because, unfortunately, dogs were pending for applicants for several weeks and then the applicant would change their mind. This happens more often with puppies, as applications are submitted impulsivly more often for them. Our process is great because it takes a little time, so impulsive decisions fade. However it was unfortunate for the dogs, and the foster homes, as then the process needed to be re-started. By securing a wait-list we are able to move forward more quickly if a pending adoption falls through. This is a new process for us, so your feedback along the way is helpful! Thank you for supporting rescue and adoption!
