History: Catbird is a beautiful girl who needed help from a local impound. She was nervous at first and unsure of that around her however with some patient and kindness, she has been coming out of her shell more and more and is officially ready to start her journey in finding her forever home. She absolutely adores people and is working on learning how to share things like toys and space with other dogs so slow intros will be needed for this beauty!
A Note from the Foster: CatBird is a mouthful so the baby girl goes by Birdie at our house. We may sing Surfin Bird to her a little bit, you are very welcome for the earworm. She will pull you in with her big beautiful soulful eyes and wonderful personality. Birdie wants nothing more than to be part of a family and to get all the love and cuddles and toys and balls and bones to chew. Looking out the window and laying in the sun makes Birdie a very happy girl.
Baby Birdie doesn't know how to play though. She wants to so badly, with both people and other dogs, and she starts well. Then she gets excited and humping starts. When it is people, we redirect and/or put her away because she needs to calm down. When it is dogs, we also redirect but if not watched our dogs can take offense. So slow introductions are needed, and keeping her on a leash for a while so she can be removed from the situation easily. Will this be long term? We don't know, but we do know she has gotten better since we brought her home. We also know she doesn't do well when she is separated from the rest of the house for long periods. She will make her unhappiness known. She spends time between us alone, just a few of our dogs with her on a leash, and time in her area, where she can see us.
She is worth the work when she cuddles and gives you all the love. Watching her run through the yard with the puppy we have is a sight to see, and seeing the happiness when she comes in is worth it.
She is kennel trained, but because we have her behind a fence/gate she is never in it unless she is eating. She sleeps well at night, and when my husband took her to the cabin, she slept on the couch, snuggled under blankets as close to the fireplace as she could get. She did well on the drive up, she just curls up and sleeps. She does have typical staffy skin and needs baths for the itchy, but she doesn't hate them and loves the non itching after.
Adoption Fee: $500 + tax
Adoption Status: Is this dog available? Submitting an application is the best first step to learning if a dog is still available. There is a chance this dog could have a pending adoption when your application is submitted, however our team will offer approved applicants to be put on a waiting list for that dog. Additionally, we can make recommendations on other dogs that may be a match. Pending adoptions do not mean the adoption is finalized. Why did we implement this change? We implemented this update because, unfortunately, dogs were pending for applicants for several weeks and then the applicant would change their mind. This happens more often with puppies, as applications are submitted impulsivly more often for them. Our process is great because it takes a little time, so impulsive decisions fade. However it was unfortunate for the dogs, and the foster homes, as then the process needed to be re-started. By securing a wait-list we are able to move forward more quickly if a pending adoption falls through. This is a new process for us, so your feedback along the way is helpful! Thank you for supporting rescue and adoption!
