History and a note from the foster: Are you looking for a tall handsome blonde with brown eyes, with a kissable face like Snoopy?! Then look no further!
Hi, my name is Clyde. My foster mom says my name is very fitting because I’m such a tall boy. She thinks I should put in an application for the 2025 Budweiser horse commercial. I had a ruff start for the first part of my life, but my foster mom is working very hard to make sure I learn all about the good side. I was very nervous when I first arrived at her house, but I am working on building my confidence. I am more interested in other animals than I am people but hopefully overtime that will change. I do well with small and big dogs. But I need a reminder when playing with little dogs that I’m not their size. At times I ask my foster mom for some love but other times I do not want them. On a few occasions I have even snuggled my head on her lap. I love being outside and walk nicely on a leash. When I first go out, I am a little excited. I do pull, but after a couple minutes I settle down in stride next to my foster mom. I do not like when the resident dog’s leash hooks around my bum cheeks, it scares me, and I try to pull away. My foster mom says my time at the water bowl needs to be monitored. She says that I’m not a camel and I can’t consume that much water that quickly. I try to prove her wrong, but she is right and I burp up water. There is free water outside at night, it shoots across the grass. Did you know you can fit a whole sprinkler head in your mouth?! Car rides are very new for me but I’m doing a very good job of laying down during the ride. Getting in the car is not my favorite, I needed to be picked up like a sack of potatoes but I’m getting out all on my own! I am fully potty trained! I have had a couple accidents but that is because my tummy was upset, and I couldn’t hold it any longer. I have started to move to the door to let my foster mom know I needed to go potty. I also have learned the word “Kennel up” when my foster mom leaves for work and I need to be in the kennel. Unfortunately, I can’t have any blankets or bed in the kennel as I like to chew them up when I get bored. But I do have a blanket in the pen I sleep in at night and leave that one alone.
My foster mom said she needs to add some words for my potential forever home:
Clyde has not had the best start. His forever home is going to need to understand that it will take some time to build trust with him. He is on medication to help with his anxiety. There is a noticeable difference when he has not taken it. He is a very handsome boy, but to start he is not going to be a dog that you can love on. It will take him some time for him to allow you to pet him. It has taken a little over two months for him to be comfortable for me to give him love. He seems to warm up to women easier than men. So, men will need to go a little slower. There are still times that he pulls away when I reach to pet him. So, it will be important to learn his body language and respect his space if he doesn’t want attention. At times he will still run away from me even if my goal is to just walk around him to get to the living room. He has his safe spots in the house, so finding a place for him to go to will be key. He is nervous of sounds (garage door, dropping items, footsteps towards him, etc.). He will need to be monitored with toys as he tries to chew them apart versus play with them. Clothes will also need to be picked up. This young man has ruined my streak of none of my dogs eating a sock. He has spent some time around kids. But he is nervous of their fast movements and tries to run away. He is a big boy and needs room to run. We had a bad experience with him on a long leash, so a home with a fenced yard would be beneficial. I know he will be the sweetest boy as he continues to open up and get experience from kind caring humans. But I want his forever home to understand it will take some time for him to get there and they will need to be patient and kind.
Adoption Fee: $550 + tax
Adoption Status: Is this dog available? Submitting an application is the best first step to learning if a dog is still available. There is a chance this dog could have a pending adoption when your application is submitted, however our team will offer approved applicants to be put on a waiting list for that dog. Additionally, we can make recommendations on other dogs that may be a match. Pending adoptions do not mean the adoption is finalized. Why did we implement this change? We implemented this update because, unfortunately, dogs were pending for applicants for several weeks and then the applicant would change their mind. This happens more often with puppies, as applications are submitted impulsivly more often for them. Our process is great because it takes a little time, so impulsive decisions fade. However it was unfortunate for the dogs, and the foster homes, as then the process needed to be re-started. By securing a wait-list we are able to move forward more quickly if a pending adoption falls through. This is a new process for us, so your feedback along the way is helpful! Thank you for supporting rescue and adoption!
