History: Gunner is a handsome boy who arrived to rescue from a local impound and had a bit of stranger danger. He was unsure of new environments and people although he tried really hard to be brave. He has been doing great in rescue with a confident home and hopes to find a patient family of his very own soon!
A Note from the Foster: Gunner is a very typical lab, very standard of his breed in most ways. He is athletic and energetic and would benefit from regular activity. He loves to play with a ball and toys. Gunnar also is not afraid of the water and will just dive right in, especially if he is chasing after a toy. We do not know a lot about gunner's past but we believe that he was not treated very kindly by people in the past. He can be weary and nervous about people he has not met. He also has an alertness about him and will bark if strangers are at the house or enter his space if he is not expecting it. He has gotten slightly better with this over time but likely something he will always struggle with. Gunner has been doing great at beginning of learning some obedience, he can sit, stay, down, kennel, and doing great with loose leash walking at heel with reminders. Gunner has also been doing great with other dogs, he seems to do the best with female dogs and picks and chooses which male dogs he is ok with. Gunner would do great with an active home that will keep him moving and provide lots of physical and mental stimulation. He Would also benefit from a patient home willing to continue to work with him on his stranger danger fear. Gunner would thrive if given a job to do and that would also likely help build confidence for him too!
Adoption Fee: $550 + tax
Adoption Status: Is this dog available? Submitting an application is the best first step to learning if a dog is still available. There is a chance this dog could have a pending adoption when your application is submitted, however our team will offer approved applicants to be put on a waiting list for that dog. Additionally, we can make recommendations on other dogs that may be a match. Pending adoptions do not mean the adoption is finalized. Why did we implement this change? We implemented this update because, unfortunately, dogs were pending for applicants for several weeks and then the applicant would change their mind. This happens more often with puppies, as applications are submitted impulsivly more often for them. Our process is great because it takes a little time, so impulsive decisions fade. However it was unfortunate for the dogs, and the foster homes, as then the process needed to be re-started. By securing a wait-list we are able to move forward more quickly if a pending adoption falls through. This is a new process for us, so your feedback along the way is helpful! Thank you for supporting rescue and adoption!
