History and a Note from the Foster: Ichika was a breeder release rescued in July 2024. She arrived completely shut down. She wouldn’t move, look at us, eat drink or even go potty for the first week. She has come a long way but since then.
She was adopted by a very nice couple, she bonded with the wife but became very fearful of her husband and ultimately returned to rescue and came back to our home.
Since Ichika first arrived she has been with us, family of four, she has bonded with me and my 11 year old son but she does not care for my 15year old daughter and only tolerates my husband. We would all love to see her find her fire or home where she can be at ease and bond with all in the home.
You’ll have to be extremely patient with her but once she trusts you she is so sweet and silly but still very shy.
She loves her walks and to sniff but does not like when other people are walking by. She also loves to zoom around the yard. She tries to herd the resident dogs for play, they are good about ignoring her. During the summer months, she loved to lay in grass or on the steps to observe everything and take naps.
She likes her kennel and will often go there to rest. She keeps it clean. She is mostly potty trained, she does not give any queues when she needs to go. We try to go out with her to make sure she pees every couple of hours when she is not in her kennel and that seems to work well for her.
She likes to hoard toys but is not aggressive about it. She will chew other items if left out or if she is unattended. Computer chargers, hats and mittens have been a couple of her favorite items.
Ichika’s best chance is in a quiet home with one other confident dog. One or two people with not too many visitors. She will need a fenced in yard and daily walks with resident dogs. I think the walks helped her bond with me.
She will need time to decompress and your willingness to go very slow with her. She will let you know when she is ready. Coco’s Heart has a great process of how to work with timid dogs It’s slow but so rewarding once she trusts and bonds with you.

Adoption Status: Is this dog available? Submitting an application is the best first step to learning if a dog is still available. There is a chance this dog could have a pending adoption when your application is submitted, however our team will offer approved applicants to be put on a waiting list for that dog. Additionally, we can make recommendations on other dogs that may be a match. Pending adoptions do not mean the adoption is finalized. Why did we implement this change? We implemented this update because, unfortunately, dogs were pending for applicants for several weeks and then the applicant would change their mind. This happens more often with puppies, as applications are submitted impulsivly more often for them. Our process is great because it takes a little time, so impulsive decisions fade. However it was unfortunate for the dogs, and the foster homes, as then the process needed to be re-started. By securing a wait-list we are able to move forward more quickly if a pending adoption falls through. This is a new process for us, so your feedback along the way is helpful! Thank you for supporting rescue and adoption!
