History: We recently held our annual Out of the Cold Rescue Effort and welcomed back 200+ animals to rescue. This rescue effort helps animals out of the cold, frigid weather of North Dakota and welcomes them to loving foster homes at Coco’s Heart who work towards finding forever homes for these sweet pups.
A Note from the Foster: Keeley, a 10-month-old black lab, arrived to rescue from ND as part of the OOTC rescue efforts. It was initially believed that she was pregnant, but upon additional examination over two weeks later, it seems Keeley has decided to withdraw her application for the role of 'Momma Dog'. Instead, Keeley is applying for her lifelong dream job of 'Dog in a Furever Home'. Please see Keeley's resume below for her current skills, pawbilities, and qualifications.
Watch Dog Extraordinaire: Keeley barked at her reflection in the fireplace glass for two days. Rest assured that you will be protected from miniature, shadowy Labrador Retrievers entering your home via your fireplace with Keeley on duty.
Discerning Taste: Who wants one of the 89 dog toys scattered everywhere when she can play with your stuff? You’ve been warned. Any chews are on you!
Strength of an Iditarod Sled Dog: Being on a leash and going on walks were very scary for Keeley, at first. With the help of her emotional support Golden, McLovin, she started to love her walks, so much so that she started pulling like the lead sled dog. Enter the Gentle Leader. For the first few days, Keeley resembled a fish flopping on a hook when on the Gentle Leader, but quickly learned walks were much more fun as a puppy rather than a floppy, ol’ catfish.
Team Player: The little Lab Lady loves big and includes all of the following on her team: small dogs, grumpy dogs, big dogs, old dogs, squirrels, her people, new people, babies, toddlers, teens and neighbors. In fact, Keeley is such a team player that she gets very lonely when her team members aren't by her side all day long, try to sneak off to go outside without her, dare to close the door to the bathroom, or walk to another room.
Unmitigated Enthusiasm: For walks, her buddies, zoomies, naps, her people, treats, wrestling, belly rubs, her fluffy bed, your fluffy bed, cuddles, and ear smooshes.
Exceptional Coordination: Prances with Stick. Actually, prances with everything and anything in her mouth….blanket, pillow, remote, eye glasses, basket, underwear, coat, large box, small box, coffee pods, spoon, pinecones, house plant, toddler toy, pumpkin, gourd, tennis shoe, hat, 12 lemons, glove, dog deterrent spray (clearly not working), a bag of Russet potatoes, a box of stuffing, cranberries, Christmas lights, tool kit, and snow pants, to name a few.
Needs Improvement: Puts on the brakes rather abruptly and refuses to move when getting in the car or her kennel (although she sleeps well in her kennel all night).
Met and Exceeded Potty Training Benchmarks: Keeley has only had two accidents in the house since she arrived, both her foster mom's fault. Why did she leave the homemade chicken pot pie on the dining room table?
Extraordinary Physical Characteristics: Picture a pint size lab (only 38 lbs at 10 months) with puppy dog eyes that can melt a stone-cold heart. Granted, you aren’t delighted that your book was torn to shreds, your new walking shoes have no soles remaining or the bottom 1/3 of your Christmas tree is slightly bare, but one look in her sweet, puppy dog eyes, and you’re toast. Resistance is futile; we tried and failed miserably.
Miscellaneous Awards and Achievements:
-Walked farthest distance with 4 pinecones stuffed in mouth.
-Successfully retrieved several very large branches and strategically positioned said branches on neighbor's driveway.
-Awarded Most Detail Oriented for stopping and sniffing every single scent on every single street on every single walk.
-Best height record achieved repeatedly when tossing Benebones in the air.
-Successfully removed several landscape bushes that were keeping her from her goal of an expanded zoomie area.
-Leader in most toys removed from toy basket without playing with any of them.
-30% more dirt in the house than the previous quarter.
-Exceeded quotas on treats for sitting very nicely. Not exactly, but she is so close!
Adoption Fee: $750 + tax
Adoption Status: Is this dog available? Submitting an application is the best first step to learning if a dog is still available. There is a chance this dog could have a pending adoption when your application is submitted, however our team will offer approved applicants to be put on a waiting list for that dog. Additionally, we can make recommendations on other dogs that may be a match. Pending adoptions do not mean the adoption is finalized. Why did we implement this change? We implemented this update because, unfortunately, dogs were pending for applicants for several weeks and then the applicant would change their mind. This happens more often with puppies, as applications are submitted impulsivly more often for them. Our process is great because it takes a little time, so impulsive decisions fade. However it was unfortunate for the dogs, and the foster homes, as then the process needed to be re-started. By securing a wait-list we are able to move forward more quickly if a pending adoption falls through. This is a new process for us, so your feedback along the way is helpful! Thank you for supporting rescue and adoption!
