History: We recently held our annual Out of the Cold Rescue Effort and welcomed back 200+ animals to rescue. This rescue effort helps animals out of the cold, frigid weather of North Dakota and welcomes them to loving foster homes at Coco’s Heart who work towards finding forever homes for these sweet pups.
A Note from the Foster: Mac has been with us since early November and has been such a welcomed presence in our home. He's incredibly loving, smart, curious and an overall good boy. Physical touch is definitely his love language so his forever family must be ready for lots of hugs, cuddles, kisses and any attempt to crawl into your lap. Even when you are sitting in your desk chair trying to work, he ever so politely asks to hop up so who am I to deny him? He knows how to use those brown eyes, freckles, and a gentle paw to his advantage. Mac is full potty trained, sleeps quietly in his crate at night, though he takes a few minutes to settle in his crate when we leave the house - he loves to be with his people - and is a great passenger in the car. He loves going for rides so much that he laps my car anytime we go into the garage in hopes he gets to jump in for an adventure!
Sometimes Mac can be a little hesitant when meeting new people, but after a couple minutes and some sniffing he is all about the love. Once he decides that he loves you he will attempt, and sometimes succeed, at jumping up to say a closer hello. Because of this I think older kids would be better and they can help with that training, which I think he'd master with some consistency and a firm "no". Mac has mastered "sit" and "lay down" and is doing really well with "come." Mac LOVES to go on walks and explore the neighborhood. He's a strong boy and does pull a little bit, but it's very manageable and nothing a little training can't fix. He has been responding very well to re-direction when he sees squirrels or rabbits, or when he's focusing on a dog in the distance. I think he would be a good hiking or running buddy when the weather warms up!
He lives with a larger dog who has some "quirks" and Mac can be a bit too excitable around other dogs at first, because of this we went slow with introductions. Mac has been extremely respectful of boundaries and our dogs' space, and now they are best buds who like to play and go for walks together. He plays a little rough, and can be mouthy with our dog when playing, but responds well to correction and re-direction and to be honest our dog plays rough too so it works for them. He's met a few of the neighbor dogs and has done well after the initial meeting. I think Mac just gets overly excited when he sees or meets a new dog so he comes off a little strong, but with slow intros and a little extra time he'd be fine living with other dogs. But he'd be in heaven getting 100% of the attention in a home as the only dog too.
Mac loves to chew on bones and play with any toys he's given, but has never been destructive of any human items. He doesn't counter surf and barely begs for food. He's just a sweet boy looking for a home that can shower him with love and attention, take him along to pick up take out, and maybe a walk or two. Submit an application to meet this cutie today!
Adoption Fee: $500 + tax
Adoption Status: Is this dog available? Submitting an application is the best first step to learning if a dog is still available. There is a chance this dog could have a pending adoption when your application is submitted, however our team will offer approved applicants to be put on a waiting list for that dog. Additionally, we can make recommendations on other dogs that may be a match. Pending adoptions do not mean the adoption is finalized. Why did we implement this change? We implemented this update because, unfortunately, dogs were pending for applicants for several weeks and then the applicant would change their mind. This happens more often with puppies, as applications are submitted impulsivly more often for them. Our process is great because it takes a little time, so impulsive decisions fade. However it was unfortunate for the dogs, and the foster homes, as then the process needed to be re-started. By securing a wait-list we are able to move forward more quickly if a pending adoption falls through. This is a new process for us, so your feedback along the way is helpful! Thank you for supporting rescue and adoption!
