History and a Note from the Foster: When Neptune came to Coco’s Heart, the vet team discovered he had a heart defect called a subaortic stenosis. His aorta, which is the main blood vessel sending blood from the heart to the rest of the body, was constricted and putting a lot of extra pressure on his heart. Neptune has since had heart surgery to widen the vessel and has healed well! Neptune will be on lifelong medication for his heart condition and should be seen by a cardiologist every 6-12 months to check up on his heart.
Here’s the thing though, Neptune has no idea his heart is any different! He is just your big ol’ average puppy: playing with his friends, getting pets from all sorts of new people, and occasionally making mischief.
Neptune’s average day consists of lounging on the couch, watching out the window for neighbors to walk by, playing with his toys, wrestling with our young shepherd mix, making some progress on his hole to the center of the earth in the backyard, patrolling the neighborhood on a walk, and ending back on the couch for some cuddle time. Neptune is kennel trained and potty trained.
Neptune lives with 3 other big dogs and his favorite by far is our young shepherd mix. He loves to play and wrestle with her. Neptune’s ideal forever home would have another playful female pup or he could rule the roost alone, as long as he had plenty of toys! Neptune had some resource guarding when he came to us, but has seriously improved. You would never know it when he is comfortable at home, but Neptune has a tendency to be a little shy. Young kids make him especially nervous so we would recommend any kids in his life be 12 or older. Like any Great Pyrenees, he also likes to use his outside voice, so no shared walls for this big guy.
Neptune rides well in the car, walks nicely on leash, and kindly tolerates regular grooming like brushing, nail trims, and the occasional ear hair trim. He really is the sweetest pup and absolutely adored by everyone who meets him!
Adoption Fee: $750 + tax
Adoption Status: Is this dog available? Submitting an application is the best first step to learning if a dog is still available. There is a chance this dog could have a pending adoption when your application is submitted, however our team will offer approved applicants to be put on a waiting list for that dog. Additionally, we can make recommendations on other dogs that may be a match. Pending adoptions do not mean the adoption is finalized. Why did we implement this change? We implemented this update because, unfortunately, dogs were pending for applicants for several weeks and then the applicant would change their mind. This happens more often with puppies, as applications are submitted impulsivly more often for them. Our process is great because it takes a little time, so impulsive decisions fade. However it was unfortunate for the dogs, and the foster homes, as then the process needed to be re-started. By securing a wait-list we are able to move forward more quickly if a pending adoption falls through. This is a new process for us, so your feedback along the way is helpful! Thank you for supporting rescue and adoption!
