A note from the foster: S-t-e-l-l-a! (tailwag) yes, yes I know my posting says my name is Patches but when my foster momma took me in she found that I just happened to ignore my name and didn’t find it very fitting for me. She proceeded to call me Miss Lady for a while until she figured out my personality…which in complete puppy fashion, I can be a tiny bit stubborn. The second day she had me we continued to try out new names and when she tried out “Stella” I paused, chewing my bones and perked my ears to look at her. When she asked if she should call me that I went over for some pets; so that’s that, we are calling me Stella for now! Please use the name “Patches” when applying to adopt me however.
Let's start with a little about my background, this will help you have a better understanding of where I am at in my young life. I am approximately 13 weeks old and a pitbull/german shepherd mix best guess. I recently came up to Coco’s rescue from a partner rescue in Oklahoma. That rescue took me off the streets so that nothing bad would happen to me. Things are SO different here compared to Oklahoma! Like this weather for one, BRRRR, this will take my little body some getting used to (I’ve only been here 6 days). I am working really hard on potty training but it is so cold outside and I do not like it. My foster mom is patient with me to go out in short bursts multiple times, this helps and I have been doing really well. She just wants to make sure I am emptying my bladder completely since I go so quick and want to go back in. I’m trying really hard not to have accidents in the house, I have figured out using potty pads, I am trying really hard to adapt to all the changes.
My foster momma says I am just a little fur ball of energy and love! I really enjoy playing, chewing and running around; but most of all I aim to please. I will stop what I am doing to follow everyone around and see what they are doing because everything is so new to me. I enjoy playing with the resident pup and other foster puppies here. There are these things they are calling “cats” here too, still trying to figure those things out. They make weird noises, sometimes they look like they might want to play with me, but none of them ever will, and they definitely do not like it when I chase them. I’m catching on really quick to that, we will be friends in no time.
What I am working on the most and currently need the most patience with is my crate training. These things that they put me in are just SO new to me. I see the other dogs being so calm and I don’t completely understand. It’s definitely a necessary thing to keep me safe during stages of my life, something I will encounter throughout stages of my life, and something that my foster momma tells my all the puppies my learn to do. Currently I am practicing positive reinforcement in my crate and learning it IS a safe space. I have my meals in my crate, eat chews in my crate, and spend short periods of time in my crate just trying to relax, I don’t always get there but I sure do try.
I hope that you will be interested in learning more about me and have the patience to help me adapt to the giant new world! I am so excited to meet you!
Adoption Fee: $750 + tax
Adoption Status: Is this dog available? Submitting an application is the best first step to learning if a dog is still available. There is a chance this dog could have a pending adoption when your application is submitted, however our team will offer approved applicants to be put on a waiting list for that dog. Additionally, we can make recommendations on other dogs that may be a match. Pending adoptions do not mean the adoption is finalized. Why did we implement this change? We implemented this update because, unfortunately, dogs were pending for applicants for several weeks and then the applicant would change their mind. This happens more often with puppies, as applications are submitted impulsively more often for them. Our process is great because it takes a little time, so impulsive decisions fade. However it was unfortunate for the dogs, and the foster homes, as then the process needed to be re-started. By securing a wait-list we are able to move forward more quickly if a pending adoption falls through. This is a new process for us, so your feedback along the way is helpful! Thank you for supporting rescue and adoption!
