History: Pearl came to Coco's Heart in July. She had mature cataracts in both eyes, and was unable to see because of them.
She was evaluated by a veterinary opthalmologist and it was determined that her vision could be restored with cataract surgery.
There was quite a waiting list for this procedure, but she finally got her cataracts removed on August 14. Normally, a false lense is inserted into the lens capsule when a cataract is removed. For Pearl, the left eye had a damaged/scarred capsule and a false lens was not inserted. This eye is likely to have much blurrier vision but for our pets, that does not ever seem to cause them any issues.
She had a recheck on Sept 4 and again on November 10. Her eye doctor is pleased with her recovery. There was some slight shifting of the false lens in the right eye but they did not expect it to be a problem for her.
She will need rechecks of the eyes at various periods moving forward with an eye specialist or a veterinarian with experience dealing with post-cataract surgery pets. Her next recheck should be around Dec 10. All future follow-up care will be the adopters responsibility. She is still on an eye medication called dorzolamide that should be continued until otherwise directed.
A Note from the Foster: Pearl is the quintessential Cocker Spaniel. Big ears, big paws, big eyes, big heart. She loves to love people, and just wants someone she can call hers.
Adoption Fee: $750 + tax
Adoption Status: Is this dog available? Submitting an application is the best first step to learning if a dog is still available. There is a chance this dog could have a pending adoption when your application is submitted, however our team will offer approved applicants to be put on a waiting list for that dog. Additionally, we can make recommendations on other dogs that may be a match. Pending adoptions do not mean the adoption is finalized. Why did we implement this change? We implemented this update because, unfortunately, dogs were pending for applicants for several weeks and then the applicant would change their mind. This happens more often with puppies, as applications are submitted impulsivly more often for them. Our process is great because it takes a little time, so impulsive decisions fade. However it was unfortunate for the dogs, and the foster homes, as then the process needed to be re-started. By securing a wait-list we are able to move forward more quickly if a pending adoption falls through. This is a new process for us, so your feedback along the way is helpful! Thank you for supporting rescue and adoption!
