History: Tenna is an adorable little curly-q! She needed a second chance and an escape out of the commercial breeding world. She would make a wonderful addition to a lucky home of her very own soon!
A note from the foster: Tenna is a sweet and spunky little dog with lots of playful energy. She loves to meet and play with other dogs and would LOVE to find a home with another dog to play and snuggle with. She is a little shy when meeting humans but warms up very quickly. Once she feels safe she loves to cuddle, snuggle, and give lots of kisses.
She is getting to be well socialized and enjoys going for walks, car rides, and to dog-friendly patios and parks in the community. She has especially enjoyed going to Music in the Park events with us this summer and meeting other friendly neighborhood dogs.
Initially upon arriving in our home, she showed some mild - moderate anxiety when we kennelled her for a few hours (barking, yipping, etc). As she has learned the boundaries in our home, we feel ok to leave her for a few hours unkenneled, and she has been doing well with that and seems much happier than being left in a kennel. She will often lay on the couch with our mini beagle and watch out the window for us to return.
Healthwise, she has completed her spay surgery and dental (one tooth extraction). She also had a Cystotomy surgery to remove bladder stones and is currently on a prescription Urinary Care diet. She had a recent vet check at Coco's Heart (10/8/24) which showed that her urine pH levels are improving after being on the prescription diet for a few months. Coco's Heart vet decided to add an amino acid supplement to see if this could further help to get her pH levels into a normal range. We discussed that Tenna does not drink enough water, and this may be part of the reason her pH levels are higher. We have been adding water to her dry food to encourage better hydration.
She has had some difficulties with potty training, as is common with breeder release dogs. She does her main business outside in our fenced yard but will occasionally have tiny accidents in the house during the day. We are using a potty pad near our door to help prevent piddles in random places, and she has been doing well with that. She will also have "nervous piddles" sometimes when we pick her up while she is excited.
Overall, she is an exceptionally cute dog, one of the best personalities that we have met in our 6+ years of fostering. She will be a wonderful companion for a lucky person or family who is patient with urinary care needs. We think she would do ok in a home without other dogs but that she would be happiest with another dog as she so deeply enjoys that companionship.
Adoption Fee: $500 + tax
Adoption Status: Is this dog available? Submitting an application is the best first step to learning if a dog is still available. There is a chance this dog could have a pending adoption when your application is submitted, however our team will offer approved applicants to be put on a waiting list for that dog. Additionally, we can make recommendations on other dogs that may be a match. Pending adoptions do not mean the adoption is finalized. Why did we implement this change? We implemented this update because, unfortunately, dogs were pending for applicants for several weeks and then the applicant would change their mind. This happens more often with puppies, as applications are submitted impulsivly more often for them. Our process is great because it takes a little time, so impulsive decisions fade. However it was unfortunate for the dogs, and the foster homes, as then the process needed to be re-started. By securing a wait-list we are able to move forward more quickly if a pending adoption falls through. This is a new process for us, so your feedback along the way is helpful! Thank you for supporting rescue and adoption!
